  • 1/2 cup (112g) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 cups (310g) sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk
  • 5 oz bittersweet chocolate (60% cacao), chopped
  • Black gel icing color
  • Red gel icing color
  • 2 1/4 cups (504g) unsalted butter
  • 8 cups (920g) powdered sugar
  • 1 cup (114g) natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 57 tbsp (75-105ml) water/cream
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 oz red Wilton candy melts
  • 2 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream together butter, vegetable oil, and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one by one, then stir in vanilla.
  4. Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk until just combined.
  5. Divide batter into two bowls; mix melted chocolate into one and color the other black using gel icing.
  6. Spoon batters alternately into prepared pans and swirl with a knife for marbling.
  7. Bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes clean; cool before frosting.
