Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly butter an 11 x 8-inch casserole dish.
  2. Soak chopped dates with baking soda in scalded milk; let cool for about 15 minutes.
  3. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in one bowl. In another, blend eggs, dark brown sugar, butter, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Combine dry ingredients with the wet mixture, then fold in soaked dates.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared dish and bake for about 30 minutes until set.
